03.23.1961 | TRAINING | While training in a low-pressure chamber, Valentin Bondarenko dropped an alcohol-soaked cloth onto an electric surface. Fire engulfed the pure oxygen environment, and Bondarenko died of burns in the hospital. |

06.30.1971 | IN SPACE | Soyuz 11 Crew Georgi Dobrovolski, Viktor Patsayev and Vladislav Volkov, died after undocking from space station Salyut 1 when a valve leak depressurized their capsule. Their deaths were discovered by the ground team after a normal landing. |
